If everything is spiritual then nothing is spiritual because nothing is by its own existence something and therefore has to be part of everything. To say that nothing is spiritual is to affirm to a greater degree that everything is indeed spiritual.
something by definition is a thing of unspecified amount.
nothing by definition is the nonexistence of something.
so if there is a nonexistence of a thing of some specified amount, then there is no thing of an unspecified amount.
for example. travis goes to the store. travis has three dollars in his pocket. he has something in his pocket. travis buys a cup of coffe and a bagel for three dollars. travis pays for his coffee and bagel with the three dollars in his pocket. what does travis have left in his pocket(lint not withstanding)?? Nothing.
Therefore nothing is not really something itself, no matter how cute and fancy one is with their words to tyre and give the illusion that nothing is otherwise something.
ps. what did you think of the dvd? i am assuming that is what brought about this great discussion of nothing being something.
the absence of a thing is still something. otherwise we couldn't not refer to that absence as having definition. For something to be completely void of existence then it would have no definition. To have a definition verifies that what is defined is, indeed, something. if nothing is nonexistence then nothing is something, that something being nonexistence. not cute. not fancy. just reality as perceived in human finitude.
or the definition of nothing exists soley to define the absence of something. not the presence of nothing. therefor if nothing exists, which is debatable, then it exists only to adequately articulate a state of nonexistence. My contention would be that nothingness does not actually exist in the sense that it has a presence (whether physical or spiritual) in space/time. Instead nothing is merely a concept we have created to explain something our minds cant truly conceptualize. So to me, nothing isnt something in the sense that something is a thing that "is."
did you or did you not watch the dvd? what did you think?
Everyone who reads this post will seriously consider leaving the church. Those that read it twice will likely be youth pastors or individuals with a youth ministry background. People who read it more than that...are truly sick people. A movie quote that sums up my thoughts from Billy Madison:
“what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I've ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response was there anything that even could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dummer for having listened to it. I award you no points, and God have mercy on your soul.”
something is nothing. nothing is something. many is few, but not none...because none is all. separate is all toghether. identical is altogether different. that which differs resembles, but may or may not be opposite, depending on whether or not it is identical. what i'm trying (not trying) to say (remaining all the while silent) is(n't) that with or without nothing, we know (aren't sure) that something does exist. that is a fact (complete fabrication).
quit being cryptic.

I think J. Clark's definition of nothingness makes more sense.
